wash out the compact to prepare for upcycling. if any product residue remains, wash with warm soapy water and allow to dry. towel dry for faster results. be sure both the lid and bottom of compact are dry before proceeding.

1.

separate the top and bottom pieces of compact. this can be done by twisting and pulling carefully to separate the pieces at the hinges.

2.

locate the four holes on the sides of the top and bottom pieces of compact. attach string, twine, fishing line, etc. to each hole, and loop around. tie to secure. be sure you are using string that is sturdy enough to hold up the weight of the feeding liquid as well as the hummingbird/butterfly using it.

3.

now is a good time to fill the pieces with feeding liquid. you can do this after hanging, but filling beforehand may prevent spilling. both hummingbirds and butterflies prefer a sugar water mixture to feed off of, however, butterflies prefer to feed off of a sponge soaked with the sugar water feed.

see provided recipes to make your own nectar or purchase your own.

4.

now that you have assembled your butterfly and hummingbird feeders, find a cozy spot to hang these in your yard or a community space! A GARDEN OR NATURAL SPACE IS A PERFECT PLACE TO HANG THESE. find a sturdy branch OR imbedded ground hook to hang both new pieces.

*Warning: be sure the facet in which you choose to hang these is strong enough to hold up feeders. small twigs/plant stems/etc. will not be able to hold the weight of the feeding liquid, feeding dish and bird all together. consider the weight and act accordingly.

5.

flutttter-06.png

step back and give some time for the hummingbirds and butterflies to recognize their new feeding space. be sure not to scare them! observing from a distance or window indoors is best to see your new feeders

in action.

please know that you have done your part in creating a feeding station to promote wildlife survival.
